Meet Our LHPH Family

Our Doctors

Dr. Sharon Kensek moved around quite a bit from upstate New York, to Iowa, to finally settling in Virginia in the 1980’s. She graduated from VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and opened Lee’s Hill Pet Hospital in 1999.

Practicing medicine and helping furry family members to stay healthy and happy is still a passion for Dr. Kensek. Every patient is unique with care tailored to their specific needs. From deciding which vaccines they need (or not need), to helping with puppy/kitten training, to discussing geriatric care, she offers guidance throughout all life stages. She describes the practicing of medicine as an art form, even more so now with rapid medical advancements and likewise the cost. From the history gathering and the pet’s examination, a diagnostic and treatment plan develops, the owner’s finances and philosophy then starts the actual medical care. Written information is always sent home since worried minds cannot remember everything from the office to home. The end goal is to help the client make an informed medical decision from ‘human quality best medicine’ down to comfort care in a nonjudgmental way.

Dr. Kensek can be found hiking with her 2 dogs or chilling with her 2 cats when not in the office. From bicycling and rollercoasters to yoga practice and reading there is time for being active and a time for peace. She is hoping to get back to completing her book and take up a paintbrush again.

She looks forward to practicing medicine her entire life with ‘retirement’ doing more volunteer services for homeless animals and wildlife.

After graduating college from Winthrop University, Karen has worked at several local animal hospitals during the past 2 decades.  Initially starting as a receptionist/CSR (Customer Service Representative), to a veterinary assistant, to enrolling in Cedar Valley College’s online LVT program which furthered her education and skills in veterinary medicine. She spent the near past decade at the College of American Pathologists and is thrilled to be back in veterinary medicine.

Karen is also an avid cat lover and advocate. After volunteering for animal rescues and being the Vice President for 5 years, in 2015 she co-founded Purrs & Whiskers, Inc. In addition to helping cats in the community, Karen also is a member of the Stafford Dog Club and helps with social & educational event planning and social media.  When not volunteering with animals, Karen enjoys relaxing with her husband and their fur-babies: 6 cats, 1 dog, and a peaceful 300 gallon aquarium filled with many beautiful saltwater fish & anemones.
